I’ve decided to remove the registration requirement for people who want to make comments on this blog.
I come from a background where, quite simply, people make things hard for no good reason. As I progress in my computer security studies, I now realize that things like “registration required to post comments” is a security control to help you manage risks. The main risk in this case is spam comments and I have other controls in place to help manage that. The trade-off is that it makes it harder for legitimate readers to post comments.
So I’ve decided to remove the registration requirement — at least for now (and hopefully permanently) — and let the other controls deal with the spam. I think they’ll do just fine. There’s no point in throwing needless roadblocks in the path of legitimate blog readers.
So please — do leave comments — and there’s no longer a need to register (although I do moderate comments).
Thanks for listening,
Tom

I believe it’s a good move, Tom. I didn’t mind registering the other day, but I had a flashback to when I had a blog on the Blogware platform, where for a long time you had to have a Blogware ID: a rather scathing comment on another blog about the barriers I had to commenting led me to change the system. I now have WordPress blogs and there is no registration required. Nor do I get complaints that commenting was too hard.
Tom,
What a relief not to have to go through the extra process to post comments!
I look forward to following your blog, about which I learned from Willie Crawford’s Internet Marketing Circle.

I’m glad that you have removed the registration requirements.
This is one of the things that has always frustrated me about some of the blogs at larger media organizations. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but it still eats up time that could be used for more profitable activities like creating more blog content or exploring other advertising venues.
