There has been a new round of emails (with Valentine’s Day “love” themes) making the rounds lately.
IF YOU RECEIVE AN UNEXPECTED EMAIL, DELETE IT. NEVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN UNEXPECTED EMAIL, EVEN IF YOU RECOGNIZE THE SENDER.
With that STRONG disclaimer out of the way…
One particular Storm Worm email I received today touched my heart. It appears as if the “whoever” behind all of this is finally telling the truth.
The subject line of the email read, “I Love Thee”.
In the body was the message, “You’re My Dream” (along with the link to the IP address that will attempt to affect your computer).
After affecting hundreds of thousands of computers, they finally confess their love for people who don’t follow good security practices and thank them for fulfilling their dream of creating networks of compromised computers that can be sold to other miscreants for profit. How touching. You guys are really all right… NOT!
Don’t return the love. NEVER CLICK ON A LINK IN AN UNEXPECTED EMAIL, EVEN IF YOU RECOGNIZE THE SENDER.
Keep that love unrequited, please — no matter how much you’d love to click on those links.
Thanks for listening,
Tom
