Have you ever seen a cartoon / comic / joke in which the basic punch line is that they guy / gal assigned to paint the floor did so — only to find that they have painted themselves into a corner and must now wait until the floor is dry before they can do anything else?
I don’t want to be that person, so I’m going to be taking this blog into a different direction.
This blog has my name on it — TomBrownsword.com. If I were to ever sell my business (which is my exit strategy — someday, when I’m tired of working, which won’t be anytime soon), it would be hard to sell my name. Others have done it, but then again, most of them have been household names (my name isn’t even a “doghouse name”!).
I’ve also come to the conclusion that this blog is a mish-mash of several different topics. Instead of blogging about them in their proper place, I’ve been blogging about them here. That needs to stop because it is hindering the growth and development of those sites.
So while I’ll occasionally create new posts for this blog that don’t seem to fit anywhere else (mostly observations about Internet-based business practices), I’m going to be primarily using this blog to link to posts that I make on my other blogs:
- I’ll be blogging about my business activities from BusinessActionSteps.com. I started the blog on that domain for what can be described as a subset of my Internet-based business; it will be simple to expand it out. This will become my main business blog.
- My computer security and business protection information for other entrepreneurs will be posted at The Business Protector.
- For general security tips for “anybody and everybody”, Simple Security Tips is the place to go. There’s nothing there yet, but I’ll be working on that site as soon as I release my next product.
- Current mid-range plans call for starting another blog on open source software training. I’ll announce that particular blog when it’s ready — and will also post back here if I decide to pursue a different market.
Since I may be posting to this blog several times a day with nothing more than short posts and links to my other blogs, I’m also going to change the blog announcement emails to no more than one per day. You are welcome to sign up for the blog annoucement lists for my other blogs if you want more frequent annoucements (and if this new concept sounds like something you don’t want, you can always unsubscribe from this blog annoucement list. It’s always your choice). You’ll be able to specific announcements from a specific blog that interests you (by signing up for the blog announcement list ona specific site) or get a daily email with a summary of my blogging activity for the above blogs (by signing up for this blog’s announcement list). Of course, you are more than welcome to sign up for as many of my blog announcement lists as you like — and I don’t mind if you sign up for all of them. It’s up to you.
There are also a lot of things I’d like to write about that have nothing to do with building an Internet-based business. Of course, my “name” site — TomBrownsword.com — is the perfect place for that. So I’ll be starting another blog soon on this website where I’ll be making those occasional “private” posts. I’ll post the link here when that blog is ready (and will probably update the blogroll), but I don’t think I’ll create a blog announcement list for that blog (although I’ll keep the RSS feed). It’s just not going to be a blog that I try to drive traffic to but will be there in case somebody is interested. Some of the stuff on that blog will be a bit “strange” to some (remember, I’m the only normal person in the world — the rest of you are absolute freaks…
) and I don’t want it to distract you and keep you from doing what you need to do. But it will be there… if you dare…
As always, I welcome comments and feedback. You can leave a comment on this blog, trackback from your blog, send me an email (if you are subscribed to my blog announcement list) — or you can leave a comment at Protector Support, my new support desk system.
Thanks for listening,
Tom
P.S. — Yes, this was a spur of the moment decision — but from my perspective, I don’t really need to think about it. I’ve been subconsciously meditating about a better way to do things lately when this popped into my mind… Anybody who has completed Robert Anthony’s course will know what I’m talking about and how it happened.
P.P.S. — At least I didn’t commit blogicide this time!
P.P.P.S. — Why are you still reading this? It isn’t a sales letter…

Tom – excellent choice, especially considering if you ever want to sell a blog.
And just so you know what a great idea this is, I am going to outright swipe it!
Of course I won’t be doing internet security and what-not, not my expertise, but creating a blog for each subject matter sure keeps thing a lot more organized than handfuls of unrelated categories on the side.
Thanks for the great idea, as always, I enjoy reading your posts.
