Windows Vista Nag Screens

Ugh. I recently purchased an inexpensive laptop that’s running the basic version of Windows Vista just so I could learn more about it. I thought I’d share one thing I learned about it that I absolutely hate.

THE FRIGGIN’ NAG SCREENS! ARE YOU LISTENING, MICROSOFT? GET RID OF THEM!

Honestly; I have to click on what seems to be 20 nag screens before I can get a clear desktop and start working.

“Your computer has numerous security problems.” No, it doesn’t; I just choose not to use Norton Bloated Internet Security.

“Please participate in our customer support experience.” No, go pay somebody to be part of a focus group and get your information that way.

“Your computer will not be fully protected until you activate Norton Internet Security.” Yes, it is; take a look a couple of comments up. Just go away, OK?

That “You have a computer with Vista” opening window. Geesh, think I didn’t know that when I bought it?

Microsoft, I want to turn on my computer and be faced with a blank desktop that’s ready for me to go to work. I don’t want your STUPID NAG SCREENS, OK? And your constantly trying to shove Norton Bloated Internet Security down my throat is beyond annoying; it’s taking advantage of your practical monopoly to shove marketing messages down my throat. It’s popup spam in my eyes. Isn’t that a bit hypocritical of a company that takes aggressive action against spammers?

Besides, do I really need more bloatware that will slow down Vista even more?

I will find solutions to these things eventually. I’ll either figure out how to get rid of the stupid screens / balloon tips — or will figure out a way to run another operating system that does what I want without the garbage.

As I’ve said many times in the past, Windows is probably the best choice for most people because, for the most part, it’s “plug and play”. You do need to do the monthly updates. And while there are mixed reviews about Service Pack 1, you should probably go ahead and install it (but always test first).

Overall, all I can do is try to figure out a viable mass alternative to Windows.

Thanks for listening,
Tom
