In my last blog post I mentioned that Norton Live Update wasn’t working on my Windows Vista laptop and the recommended solution — uninstalling and reinstalling Norton — was unworkable. Thankfully I’m now able to report that I found a work-around for the problem, although other issues exist that I won’t bore you with on this blog (my home network administrator is incompetent…?).
First, the problem wasn’t with “LUALL.DLL” — it was with “LUALL.EXE”. My apologies for the confusion.
The solution I found was to download and re-install the Live Update software on my laptop. I did that and no longer get the error. I still can’t properly connect to the website; it could be that the incompetent home network administrator (that would be me!) has some setting wrong, or it could be that there are so many updates to download that the software times out on my dialup connection. If that’s the case, I’ll get high-speed access at the hotel over the weekend and will try to get things caught up there.
If you are experiencing the same problem (I have a Compaq laptop), try downloading and re-installing the appropriate Live Update file from the following link:
http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/home_homeoffice/products/lu/lu/files.html
If you try this after reading this post and it works, please leave a comment or a trackback from your blog to let me know. Thanks.
I also want to mention that I may have been a bit unfair to Norton and Symantec in my last blog post. It’s possible that they have improved things for the current version of their software so that it works better with Vista. We’ll see what happens!
Thanks for listening,
Tom

Hi Tom,
I’m very glad to read that you were able to resolve the issues with LiveUpdate; I’m sorry you had trouble.
I’m with Symantec’s Public Relations agency and wanted to introduce myself, should you have any other issues in the future.
My email is noahe(at)carryonpr(dot)com. I’d be happy to hear from you anytime.
Best,
Noah
