My Brief Affair With Google Chrome

I downloaded Google Chrome today via my dialup connection. All in all, not too bad; it took less than 20 minutes. I can live with that!

Installation went smoothly; I just had to close out FireFox (which constantly seems to be running on my computer for some reason) first so it could import all of my settings. Understandable; it probably needed access to the files used by FireFox to store my bookmarks and etc.

However, I didn’t get very far with it once I started it up… In fact, I didn’t even make it to my home network’s gateway. I use an ISDN router to connect to the Internet, and when I typed in the URL to get to it so that I could activate my connection — Google Chrome couldn’t find it.

And that router is my default gateway. And I know that it’s working because I just accessed it in FireFox so I could make this blog post. So I literally didn’t get far with Chrome, did I?

Another thing I don’t like right now is that RoboForm doesn’t seem to work with it. I’m one of those people who loves RoboForm, and if Google Chrome isn’t yet ready for RoboForm, then I’m not ready for Google Chrome. On the other hand, if FireFox extensions work in Chrome, then perhaps the RoboForm extension will work. Haven’t tried it yet, and since I can’t even get to my gateway to turn on my connection in Chrome, further testing is kind of pointless right now.

But hey, it’s still in Beta, and I’m confident that Google will get these bugs fixed. I went through the comic book presentation and really like what they are trying to do with Chrome and am confident that they’ll get all of those bugs worked out.

So keep on plugging away, Google. I’m eager to get my hands of a version of Chrome that will actually allow me to connect to the Internet! :) And I’m confident that it’s going to be an excellent app that changes a lot of things.

Thanks for listening,
Tom
