A Good Reason To Listen To Your Spouse

I’ll be the first to admit that my spouse (a wife, in my case!) does not always agree with the day-to-day activities of my business. In her case, though, it’s usually life’s demands that make her this way. Like many, I’m building my business while I hold down a full-time job, so any business building time has to come from somewhere else, be it sleep time, family time, or some Other Time. So while she does want me to have my Freedom Business, it’s not always easy finding a balance as I work day to day on that business.

But that’s a topic for another day (in general, I try to keep everybody in the house happy, and we’ve struck a happy medium in that I can wake up early and work until the children wake up). Today, I want to talk about something else.

In spite of some discouraging comments I made in a post a while back, I was finally able to purchase Mike Filsaime’s Seven Figure Code. It’s already worth the purchase price to me and I’ve only watched the first DVD.

In this series, Mike Filsaime and Tom Beal talk a lot about their business, its history, the mistakes they made, and what they are doing now. At first, I thought their main selling point — that you could take a six figure business and make it a seven figure business in a year –was a bit over the top, but if you are willing to listen, learn, and work, it just might be possible. I don’t have a six-figure business just yet, but I think it can help me get there — so I’m glad that I purchased it.

(NOTE: If you don’t have a business and don’t have the cash to invest in this — in other words, if you have to choose between making a car/rent payment and buying this course, DON’T buy this course! But if you have a business, want to make it better, and have the cash, it’s a good choice, in my opinion.)

This first DVD talked about a BHAG (Big, Hairy Ambitious Goal), being a Hedgehog instead of a Fox, and Three Circles (passion, profit, and professional perfection, as I alliteratively call them!) and how what you do has to come from the middle where all three circles intersect. Right now, I’m a Fox — flitting around, chasing too many things — but I realize that I have to become a Hedgehog, which does one thing, does it better than other prey, and knows how to defend against the Fox’s attacks.

So armed with my BHAG, having defined my three circles, and having a vision, I’ve think I know what’s in the intersection point of those circles. Now I can trim several distractions, turn my vision into a mission, then trim even more stuff so that I can work on making my BHAG a reality.

I’m not going to share very much just yet, but I will share my BHAG: I want to help 1,000,000 people earn an extra $1,000 a month, and the one thing I can do well is help people.

And I have a plan in my mind that will make it possible. No details just yet, but here’s a hint: I Timothy 2:2…

Oh, I forgot to mention why you should listen to your spouse: the first time I kissed her, I needed to shave — and she called me a porcupine, which is the hedgehog’s American cousin. She still calls me that to this day. Talk about prophetic; it’s just what I need.

Thanks for listening,
Tom
