The E-Myth Revisited: My Take On It

I purchased a copy of The E-Myth Revisted by Michael E. Gerber back in April of this year (it’s almost September now) while in Chicago on a trip to visit my daughter and catch a training event. It sadly went into the pile beside my desk until yesterday, when I decided that the pile had become a distraction that had to go.

The pile went. The book stayed. I’m glad it did.

Yesterday I talked about Mike Filsaime’s Seven Figure Code, the things I’m learning there, and the changes that are taking place in my business — and my life — as I slowly work my way through that course. This book — The E-Myth Revisited — dovetails nicely with that course.

What I’ve basically learned is that my former way of wanting to build a business was doomed to fail even before I got started. Being an old techie and having worked for somebody else for over 30 years now, I did want to get rid of a boss but still wanted to do all the work. But people like that who start a business end up with a new boss — themselves and their business — and end up hating even the work that they love to do.

Thankfully, the book also talks about building a mature business from Day 1, and the stuff mentioned in the E-Myth is greatly expanded upon in the Seven Figure Code course. And (surrprise!) your business is only going to be successful if you work ON it instead of IN it (just like James Brausch outlines in this link and “preaches” in everything he does) — except now I fully understand what that means after reading the E-Myth. And since I believe that it’s never too late, I’m doing what I’m learning.

I strongly recommend that you get The E-Myth Revisted by Michael E. Gerber if you have a business or want a business and have not read it. It can save you a lot of heartache and grief.

Now back to work!

Thanks for listening,
Tom
