OT: Things That Make You Go “Huh”?

OK, so James Brausch tells me about an interesting experiment that Armand Morin is conducting. I looked at it earlier and although it consisted of English words, it looked like the stuff that spammers generate when they are trying to get their garbage past spam filters. Now I go there, I get a 404 error, and it redirects me to his main blog. So I stripped off the last part of the link — same result.

So I guess the experiment failed? People don’t want to read gibberish? I could have saved Armand a lot of money and told him that before he went to the trouble of putting up a blog in gibberish…

Pity I didn’t save the post that was there because it was some type of not-so-nice piece about Michel Fortin (maybe that’s why he took it down? His scrapers got carried away?). Armand’s too nice a guy to sling mud like that and I’m guessing that’s why the blog written English gibberish is gone. Good call, Armand!

I never thought that I’d ever consider giving advice to anybody, much less Armand Morin (and since it looks like he took down the scraped / spam blog, I guess he figured it out himself. Wouldn’t surprise me; I’ve met Armand, can sing marginally better than him — at least in the shower — and he’s pretty astute!), but here goes: If you’re going to put your name on something, make sure that you know what you are putting your name on. In this case, put the splog on a domain you don’t care about or at least make up a pen name — and host it somewhere other than your main server farm!

Ah, the things I see and learn and do…

Hasta la vista, James!

Gracias,
Tom

    Tom,

Hey, actually it was a wordpress rewrite script I was playing with. I grabbed the feed from Michel’s site to play with it.

As many people know Michel is one of my best friends and the funny part about what was written on the blog post was “Michel Fortin Sucks” Michael actually wrote that. LOL It’s from his own blog.

So yeah, I took it down. The /abc on my site was just a test site. I didn’t want anyone to see it.

  2. Thanks, Armand! As always, I do enjoy hearing from you — and you really are fun to watch (and a total “class act”).

    Best regards,
    Tom
