I've been on Scott's mailing list for a while and he seems genuine.

My only concern is that if he continues with the 'don't listen to gurus' line for too long it'll start screaming 'marketing ploy' itself.

And yes he's definitely using the report as a product launch teaser.
(Oops! Did I just say Product Launch? ;-)

Great post thanks.

Hi Tom

When I first went online years ago, I was on Eric Holmlund's list but years later changed computers and main emails - somehow lost contact ... just seeing Eric's name here reminded me of him and how sincere he came across back then.

It will be a pleasure to get back on his list ... and hope he definitely does not completely disappear.

Thanks for the reminder anyway.

Hey Tom,

Just ask Chris to do it as a paypal subscription. I had people in my outsource mastermind with the same problems and a paypal button solved the problem.

Then I just mannualy add people into the 1SC database to get on the list.

I thought the email he suggests to send to people was ridiculous. If only 1% of your subscribers followed that advice, you'd spend all day answering email. And what he suggests you ask is nobody's business anyway.

I found that report to be mostly a mix of guru bashing and "Follow me instead of them", which is really no different than the gurus he says not to listen to!

I hate writing a Me Too! post but everything you said about Terry is spot on.

You did miss one point that I found important; he offers an Intern Program for a beginner to get an understanding of all the things required to get an internet business up and running. I don't have the URL in head, but it is easy to find on his site. I used this program when unemployed. I wanted to learn one aspect of what he teaches and did not have the cash to spend on his program, he included it in the month long Intern Program.

Tom,

I have to admit you had me for a second. I had to keep reading to find out why I was so lazy but it turns out you were right. I did get lazy and send out all 3 links. I decided to do that for a couple of reasons: 1) it saved me some time and 2) it was an effort to overdeliver on my promise. In any event, thanks for mentioning me. I appreciate it.

Hi Tom,

I couldn't agree more about Adobe reader. I currently use Sumatra PDF reader and I'm testing out PDFTK. Adobe's reader is a huge program and those annoying security warnings that pop up when you click a link were the last straw for me. I even paid $300 for the full blown Adobe many years ago. Never again.

Hey, Tom:

I have known Hill personally for many years, and he's a fine human being. He would rather cut off his own toes that to hurt anyone, and there isn't an inclination in him to rip anyone off. Thank you for noticing quality in someone who deserves the pat on the back.

Hi Tom,

An interesting twist to providing the password to protected posts - running a different method of co-regs on your site!

I've seen it done in the past where after you subscribe you're invited to subscribe to other similar sites - but nothing quite like this.

Well done!

Hey Tom. I didn't know you had a blog! It's all Brausched out, even. I like all the blogs... but... are they leading into any products of some sort?

It seems like all this work going into making so many different blogs would be better but to use into paid infoproducts, unless I'm missing something?

I like the business action blog. It would be cool to see how many opt-ins per day or how much income per month each blog is making you.

I'm SURPRISED at the number of people who still can't touch-type these days. In college I worked on group projects with other COMPUTER SCIENCE majors who didn't even know how to touch-type!

When I was in high school I could type 220 wpm but had to look at the keyboard. After learning how to touch type I could do 120 wpm without looking, but made way less mistakes.

Typing needs to be a skill taught before the 5th grade in every school. Seriously.

p.s. the link to the word counter script isn't working... that's something I've wanted to have for a while too.

[Robert: Good to hear from you! I'll take a look at that link and get it fixed. I actually have a lot of spare time in which I can write; product creation time, unfortunately, is often quite scarce, so I focus on the blogs. There are some other reasons why I don't do many products which I won't get into here. And don't let the secret out of the bag, but a lot of the blogs will eventually lead to products... -- Tom]

Like Tom, I found the glassyeyes blog. I purchased two pairs of single vision glasses to wear when using my computer. One [air in gunmetal alloy, another in tortoiseshell plastic. They cost $53.55 for the pair!

They are superb, have made a huge difference. I feel like an idiot for paying $1000 for Kazio Kawasaki rimless progressive glasses. Sure the progressives are great for distance an dreading. But for programming my $28 glasses are far superior. I am a very happy customer.

I would take Ed's word. I learned a lot from him about creating DVDs.

As far as the screen size, since I upgraded to Camtasia Studio 5, I don't worry about the screen resolution anymore (800x600 vs 1024x768...or whatever the correct numbers are).

My screen is set at 1024x768 and that's what I record videos at for the web because the video doesn't get cut off anymore...at least not that I've noticed.

For DVDs though I might consider using 800x600 so less is on the screen and it's easier to see on a TV.

This is less an issue of Camtasia than just video encoding.

The blurriness is just a function of how it resamples your video. There may be filters you can apply to help, I've not tried that specifically.

The best results are going to be when you resample in integer multiples. So if you capture at 1024x768 then you will get decent video when you resample it to 512x384. If you want to get 800x600 video you could set things up and capture at 1600x1200. That might be a bit over kill and you'll still lose detail.

In general, if you want crisp video with screen detail then keep the resolution the same from beginning to end.

Hi Tom,

1. No, not in my experience. But a more powerful processor can make the recordings smoother (better frame capture.)

2. I've upgraded so can't answer this one from experience, but I suspect the version would make no difference. However the new version does helps with zooming in on hard to see areas which helps produce more legible recordings, especially if destined for TV viewing.

3. In the end that's what I ended up doing... after a LOT of trial and error. (I chased my tail for a long time and ended up back where I started. :-)

Are you creating DVDs or online only?

Because if the former, the other problem I had was to do with Camtasia+DVDFlick combination (as recommended in James Brausch "How to Create a DVD" product).

That caused a weird 'striping' colour effect. Looked dreadful.

Again, after endless hours of testing I found it went away when I changed the Codec and switched from DVDFlick to 'Sony DVD Architect' for the DVD Mastering... and that software also allowed me to create some very professional DVD menus, (which for my primary target audience is important due to posture and branding).

Also if you're creating DVDs for European market you need to tick PAL in your DVD mastering software. (That caught me out also).

There's a lot more to the process but I hope this helps. Good luck!

Ed.

Tom - excellent choice, especially considering if you ever want to sell a blog.

And just so you know what a great idea this is, I am going to outright swipe it! :) Of course I won't be doing internet security and what-not, not my expertise, but creating a blog for each subject matter sure keeps thing a lot more organized than handfuls of unrelated categories on the side.

Thanks for the great idea, as always, I enjoy reading your posts.

I'm glad that you have removed the registration requirements.

This is one of the things that has always frustrated me about some of the blogs at larger media organizations. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but it still eats up time that could be used for more profitable activities like creating more blog content or exploring other advertising venues.

Tom,

What a relief not to have to go through the extra process to post comments!

I look forward to following your blog, about which I learned from Willie Crawford's Internet Marketing Circle.

Congratulations Tom!
I know that CISSP is not an easy exam to pass. We really need more security experts in the Internet business community.
