4 August 2008 — Not Just Another Day

by Administrator on August 4, 2008

Today wasn’t just another day, and that’s why I password protected this post. Perhaps some day I’ll make it public; if I did, then you obviously know…

But for now, this post is just to remind me of what happened.

I ate some cooked food. And not just a taste, but for me, it was a lot.

I got to the point today where fruit simply didn’t look good and I was very hungry. I woke up and ate a couple of oranges because my throat was hurting, followed by a few bananas. Iveta made me a smoothie, like usual, which I ate — but it simply didn’t satisfy me as usual. I kept on eating bananas all day long until I couldn’t eat any more, but was still hungry.

Finally, around 5:00 PM, I asked her to cook me a small portion of brown rice. No salt, no oil — just rice boiled in water. It helped. She then made some homemade potato pancakes from potatoes, a bit of onion, and some flour. They were fried in canola oil. They, too, tasted good.

How do I feel? Lower energy, and there’s a dull ache in my stomach, but the hunger went away. Right now, I think that I’ll be able to get back to normal tomorrow without any problems.

I did decide a few things today. First, this is going to be an exception. This new diet has done wonders for my body and I don’t want to go back to my old ways and weight. Second, when I do eat cooked, it won’t be for more than one meal a day, although I might do so for several days in a row. Third, I’m only going to eat meals cooked from fresh ingredients — no pre-packaged, no fried food, etc. I’ll eat from a restaurant if I know that it meets these standards. And finally, I still won’t eat crap that I know is horrible. French fries and fried chicken come to mind.

So there it is. The “streak” is stopped at 144 days. I’d say that I’m a bit disappointed, and perhaps I am, but I can’t really be because I made a conscious decision to eat as I did. Nobody forced me to eat cooked food today.

Lessons learned? I still have a lot to learn. I need to figure out why I got so hungry and why fruit didn’t satisfy me today. Perhaps I need to eat more of every fruit every day, along with the vegetables. Perhaps I’ve been neglecting some vital nutrient that’s in a raw food that I’m not eating. Whatever the case, I’m hoping (and confident) that more education will uncover the answer.

But for now, we move forward — and I’ll have to make a few more password protected posts in the days to come to report how I feel in a day or two. I’m curious as to whether I’ll get ill like Steve Pavlina did when he came off his 30 day raw food experiment earlier this year. I’m also wondering how long it will take for this batch of cooked food to work its way through my system (I’ll know from the smell when it passes). I’ll soon learn those things — and will gain more confidence and experience from it.

Smacznego,
Tom
