If you asked me to summarize the last several months of my life — the months after I went off the 100% raw food diet — I’d be able to do so in three words:

Being overweight sucks.

Armed with this precious insight, I’m ready to start another 30 days of nothing but raw food. Starting April 1, I am committing to eating nothing but 100% raw food, 80/10/10 style.

And I invite YOU to join me. To do so, get a copy of the 80/10/10 diet book and read it so that you’ll get an idea of what’s going on. You might want to join Roger Haeske’s group, too (link is in my blogroll); it will help a lot. And knowing that at least one other person is going to be joining me in this effort will help keep me motivated (and I know of at least one other person who has made the commitment. Guess I’m stuck now!).

Back to motivations and the like. Here are a few things that I’ve come to realize that will help me this time:

  • I really don’t like being overweight. Granted, I’m nowhere near where I was this time last year (when I first went on the raw food diet), but even the pounds I have gained make me feel bad.
  • Some of my friends and co-workers say that I look much better now that I’ve put some of the weight back on. I’ve got to learn to not listen to them again (sorry!). I may look better but I don’t FEEL better and I don’t PERFORM better.
  • I am beginning to see, picture, and vizualize myself as a thin, trim, and fit person. This just makes the weight I’ve gained back seem even worse.
  • I’m going to have to modify my “99% rule” a bit. I’m not going to torture myself for straying from the diet, but (and this is important) I can’t allow myself to use the rule as an easy way to eat something cooked. In other words, it’s only to be used for forgiveness, not justification…
  • More salads and vegetables this time.
  • I’m going to try as many new raw foods as I can find, just to get some variety.
  • I’m going to eat more fat this time (raw nuts and the like). I think that this will be important because I’d go for a week at a time during my time last year when I was 100% raw. Perhaps the prolonged periods of super low fat led to the insatiable hunger that drove me back to cooked foods.
  • Exercise, exercise, exercise. There are a few reasons for this, but the main one is because I don’t want to get back down to 180 pounds and LOOK (not “feel”) as thin and anemic as I did last time. Besides, if I’m to be trim AND fit, I need to exercise.
  • I may do some fasting this time, especially at the start. Many years ago I would fast for 24 hours every week and it helped with self-control. I also dedicated this time period to prayer and meditation and lots of good things happened extremely quickly in my life. I want to try it again.

On the exercise thing: I’m already doing a few push ups and walking some (now that the weather is starting to turn nice again). I’m also going to review some exercise programs and really work hard to find opportunities to be more active.

So goodbye, fat waistline. That 34 inch waist is coming back. And I’ll eventually talk about what I plan to do to help ensure that my 30 day trial becomes a 30 year trial. But for now, 30 days is all I’m promising!

Oh, one last thing; I’ve decided to put an end to signing my blog posts because it kind of messes up things in the search engines. Any ideas what the #1 search term is for this blog? Yeah, “smacznego”. I don’t think that many people are using that term to look for information on a raw food diet, especially since it’s a Polish word and this blog is in English… So the sign-offs are gone. Thanks for understanding!
