Extending The Raw Day The Only Way I Know How

by email on November 30, 2009

OK, enough is enough. I’m tired of not having any energy and not feeling as well as I know I can feel. I want to be 100% raw again (or at least a LOT closer to it than I am right now). I’m not willing to wait any longer. I want it quickly.

My problem? Why am I not yet 100% raw? Because I’ve been waiting until I “feel” like eating raw again. Motivation. All that stuff. I’m still waiting, and suspect that I’ll still be waiting several years after I die if I wait for motivation and feelings (which may be hard to detect if I’m RFDN!).

So much for an emotional approach. Out the window with you!

Instead, I’m going back to what I know works for me: Discipline. Oh, yuck! ANYTHING but that!

Sorry… Looks like this blog is about to get a LOT more boring because I’ve determined that motivation and feeling don’t work at all. At least for me. So we’re taking a different approach. Dull, boring discipline. So much for this blog!

I’m going to slowly but surely extend my “raw” day until it’s extended all the way through the day. Let me explain.

Right now, a raw breakfast is a snap for me. A big glass of fresh squeezed orange juice and two bananas. As long as they’re ripe, but not too ripe. Easy. Can do. Do do.

On the way home from work tonight, I’m going to swing by the grocery store and pick up some fresh veggies. Nothing fancy; just some lettuce, a cucumber, a stalk of celery, a few tomatoes… That sort of thing. Why? Because…

…I work right next to a grocery store and I can.

OK, that’s not the WHOLE reason! Because starting tomorrow — Tuesday, December 1, 2009 — I’m going to follow up my nice breakfast with a small salad that will combine the aforementioned vegetables. On work days, I’ll put them into a one quart plastic box and haul it to work with me. Of course, on days off when I’m home and I have blender access, I’ll be able to make a Savory Veggie Stew!

It’s big enough to satisfy my hunger, which will help me stay raw further into the day, yet not so big as to be overwhelming. This will also give me some variety between days (I never work more than 3 days in a row — at least at my job! — and always have at least two days off). I love the Stews but also enjoy nibbling on the fresh vegetables. This will mix it up some.

Here’s what this salad / Savory Veggie Stew will do for me (beyond the obvious nutrition benefits): Instead of eating my cooked dinner at 10:30 AM (I wake up very early and am ready for dinner by then), I’ll eat that salad at 10:30 and push dinner later into the day.

After I get used to that, I’ll DISCIPLINE myself to eat another fruit snack (or perhaps even a fruit smoothie) at my new, pushed-back dinner time, effectively pushing my cooked meal even further back into the day. Then I’ll keep adding raw stuff until the cooked meal is either eliminated completely or I set an alarm for 1:00 AM to eat it.

Cooked food doesn’t stand a chance. Dull, boring discipline will win.

But I’ll try to find a way to keep some of the humor in this blog (and I won’t approve any comments that say, “WHAT humor?”…).

Stay tuned!
