Getting Settled In On The Raw Food Diet Track

by email on September 26, 2009

Much to my horror, I just realized that it’s been a while since I last posted to my blog. So just in case you’ve been sitting there since August 21, waiting for the next post… (hey, I’m allowed to have my unrealistic dreams, right?)

September hasn’t been the best of months, raw food-wise. I did try to eat raw for a few days but had absolutely zero motivation to do so. Throw in a trip this past week (plus one coming up next week) and you have the recipe for a raw food disaster…

But not so fast! This past week’s trip, complete with a couple of days of nothing BUT cooked food, didn’t sit well at all with me. My body (and spirit — more on that in a minute) is telling me in no uncertain terms that it wants raw food. And not just any raw food, but 80/10/10 diet raw food.

So today I set myself up for success. I only took raw food to work with me. And not only did it go well, I wasn’t even tempted to eat the chocolate chip cookies that got passed around. NOT IN THE LEAST.

Tomorrow will also be an all raw day. Since I’m flying on Monday, I will have a cooked vegan meal on the transatlantic leg of my flight (but will carry some fruit on the plane with me — fruit that will have to be consumed before we land due to US Customs restrictions. Not a complaint, mind you; while it makes it terribly inconvenient for me, I think that protecting the country from soil and produce borne pests that are not native to North America is a function that government needs to provide). Hopefully I’ll be able to pick up some fruit snacks once we hit the ground in Charlotte before my son and I board a plane for Denver — another 3.5 hours of flying. Once we get there and pick up our rental car, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to find a 24 hour grocery store (hope they stock the produce section at night!).

Our hotel also has a breakfast buffet and I’ve already confirmed that they serve fresh fruit as a part of their buffet. Should I have warned them that they have a raw foodist coming? :)

I intend on staying raw as much as possible for my week in Colorado Springs. We’ll be there to get to know the area and look at a few houses (I’m working on getting transferred there). While we could quite contentedly stay in Germany for a few more years, we do want to settle down and both my wife and I love the mountains. Combine that with the government contract job market and plethora of military bases in Colorado Springs and you have an almost perfect place to live. At least for us. Or so we think (more of those unrealistic daydreams?).

Spiritual. Through a rather long series of events, I’ve come to the conclusion that God does reveal Himself to man through the Bible and that the plan He lays out there is what I need to follow. I’m STILL not talking about religion and denominations (I think they are deceptive and do nothing but control people and keep them from truly knowing God and His plan for mankind); what matters to me is spirituality, and you won’t find that in some dead organization where the buildings and the system are more important than the people.

But getting my “spiritual head” screwed back on correctly has shown me several things. One of those things is a lack of spiritual control and physical self control in my life (physical self control is an indicator, or “fruit”, of your spiritual life being in balance). Simply moving back to what I know is True has helped restore some of that spiritual balance, which is resulting in better physical self discipline. Which is why I’m eating raw today, tomorrow, and most of next week — and why saying “no” to those cookies wasn’t a big deal.

I want to get back to a regular blogging schedule for this blog (or at least an “irregular regular schedule”, say once or twice a week), so I’ll most likely be logging on and making a few posts while I’m on the road next week. And if you are a regular reader and live in the Colorado Springs area, I’d love to meet you while I’m there. Just leave a comment; I’ll contact you using the email address you leave there (which won’t be seen by other blog readers). Hopefully we can figure some way to meet up.

One last thing: THANKS to all of you who have read my comments about Roger Haeske’s Savory Veggie Stews and have clicked through to purchase his product. I absolutely LOVE the veggie stews I’ve made, plus there’s something about them that helps curb the effects of my cooked food addiction. I do hope that my opinion has helped you decide whether to purchase Roger’s product; if it does, you have my sincere “thanks”

While I didn’t mention it, using my link to click through to the sales page helps support this blog because Roger does pay me a referral fee for every person who purchases his course via that link. And each purchase moves me closer to my goal of being able to quit my current job so that I can become a full-time blogger and “information pusher”, which will mean more useful and more frequent blog posts — which will hopefully help you. And the best part about purchasing Roger’s course via my link is that it doesn’t cost you anything extra to purchase the product. The fee Roger pays me comes out of his pocket, not yours — as it should be (the world needs more generous people like Roger!).

Thanks again for taking a precious moment of time from your busy day to read my blog. I am grateful.
