How I Really Discovered The Raw Food Diet And Lost 70 Pounds — And You Can Too

This is a story that you’re not going to want to believe because it sounds WAY too incredible. Yet I promise you that every word of it is true — because it is my story. It began two years ago but the full impact of what I did just came to me this evening.

Today was a pretty typical day off. We loaded the kids in the car and went shopping. I bought another long sleeve shirt, tried to fix my watch (they didn’t have the right battery), and we bought some more groceries (the yellow peaches are delicious!). After we returned home, I headed to my office to catch up on email and see what’s going on in my business world.

As I was reading the sales letter for a product that a colleague called to my attention, my two year old daughter climbed up into my lap and grabbed my paper clip holder. This happens a lot, but I don’t mind it at all. In fact, one of the reasons I work at home is so that I can experience more moments like this with my children.

As I sat there reading and munching on a banana, my little girl said, “Daddy, I found a key!” As she held it up, I suddenly realized that she had found more than just a key… She had found a key that had been misplaced for almost two years. And that key held a powerful secret that I want — no, NEED — to share with you because it can change your life, just as it changed mine.

You see, that “secret” is the real reason why I’ve had the success I’ve had with the 80/10/10 raw diet.

Getting back to that key…

I purchased one of those small fireproof boxes a couple of years ago when a local store was running a sale. It’s about the size of a shoe box and has a lock on it. My five year old son likes to play with it; he calls it his “Treasure Chest” and likes to lock small toys in it. Like all small children, though, he gets tired of one “toy” after a while and moves on to something else, and the Treasure Chest was no exception. He got tired of playing with it at one point, which meant that I could finally use it.

At the time, I had just purchased Dr. Robert Anthony’s “The Secret of Deliberate Creation” and had just finished listening to it for the first time. I was quite pleased with the results I had achieved to that point with the program. In one exercise, Dr. Anthony walks you through creating the money you used to purchase the program. When I did this exercise, just a few days later, an unexpected tax refund check arrived in the mail — for over ten times the amount of the purchase price of the program.

Yes, that DID get my attention! I remember being quite happy with that result, yet…

In spite of my success with the system, I was still skeptical about some of the other parts, especially the part where Dr. Anthony talks about setting up a Request Box for communication with what he calls your Essential Silent Partner, or ESP. To put it simply, your ESP is responsible for creating what you want, and your Request Box is a place where you put requests, in writing, so that your intentions are clearly communicated to your ESP without interference from your ego. Once this is done, your ESP can work on creating those things in your life. Sounded like something from a fairy tale to me, but I decided to give it a try anyway.

So I took a couple of index cards, wrote something on them, and put them in the box on February 6, 2007.

And promptly lost the key. The box got shoved under a shelf, forgotten. I even forgot what I wrote on the card.

Live moved forward.

During the next year, I slowly but surely came to the realization that my lifestyle needed to change. As a part of that, I became convinced that the closer I could eat to “natural” — that is, eat stuff the way that it came out of the ground — the better. The more processing it went through before I ate it, the worse off I would be. And if something else ate it first before I ate it, then that was really bad.

Now keep in mind that I had no scientific proof for this; it just seemed to make sense to me. After all, for hundreds and thousands of years, mankind didn’t have all of the so-called food items we have today. They ate simply. It’s only been within the past couple hundred years that we’ve had all of these highly processed foods — and that was also about the time that a lot of these modern diseases started popping up. Coincidence? I don’t think so. Eating simple and natural seemed to be a good thing.

But at the time, it was just an idea. I didn’t do anything about it.

In late December 2007 I learned of Steve Pavlina’s 30 day experiment with the 80/10/10 raw food diet. It caught my attention and I followed it with interest. As a part of that experiment, Steve did a consultation with Roger Haeske and made a free recording of that call. From there, I signed up for Roger’s mailing list, took up his challenge to start a raw food blog (I sold my soul for a back link!), started the transition plan, joined his How To Go Raw membership site, and on March 13, 2008 I had my first 100% raw food day.

With a few bumps in the road (from which I’ve recovered), I haven’t looked back, nor will I.

Why should I? I’ve lost over 70 pounds, have incredible energy and mental clarity, and simply feel great. I’m much more active (and am becoming more active with each passing day, it seems) and truly enjoy life with my wife and children (not to mention Dog!). Life really does being at 50; there’s no way I want to go back to the way I was when I was 49 years old.

I’ve also chosen a new career to pursue — copywriting — and enjoy sitting down at my home desk daily to pursue my new career. And the benefits of the raw food diet allow me to make incredible progress towards this goal.

In fact, I was reading a sales letter for another copywriting course when my daughter came over, climbed up in my lap, grabbed my paper clip holder, and pulled out that key…

Which just happened to be the long-lost key to The Treasure Box. The Request Box. The Box that had been shoved under the shelf a long time ago, forgotten.

Of course the first thing I did was pull out the box and pop it open. I simply HAD to know what was in that box!

So I put in the key, turned it (yes, it worked!), and slowly lifted the lid — finally, after almost two years of wondering what the heck was in that box.

And what did I find? Two pieces of plastic train track, a small cartoon character toy, and two index cards.

And when I read those cards, I was in complete shock because there, in black and white, was irrefutable proof that The Secret of Deliberate Creation and The Request Box works. There was absolutely no way to deny it.

And you’ll agree with me — just as soon as I share what I wrote on those cards back in February 2007 (today is October 27, 2008).

But before I do that, take a look at this blog. I started it back in the spring of this year (at the end of February, if memory serves me correctly. I’m not connected to the Internet at the moment so I can’t check). That was almost eight months ago. And if you start reading this blog from the first post, you’ll learn that I used to weigh more than 255 pounds — but slowly lost that weight as the 80/10/10 raw food diet did its work, healing my body and restoring my good health.

I also believe that everything taught in The Secret of Deliberate Creation is found in the Bible; the only problem is that Religion has hidden this secret from us in plain view. Organized religion wants you to follow their system because they realize that once we know the true nature of God, we’ll have no need for them and their methods that rob makind of its true freedom. But The Secret of Deliberate Creation will show you what God, Jesus, and The Bible are really all about.

I say this so that you’ll understand why I wrote what I did on those cards in my Request Box.

First, the contents of the first card:

“I Lift This Up To You In Prayer” - 070207

Yes, I wrote those cards back on February 7, 2007. That’s how I knew the exact date I mentioned earlier in this blog post.

And now for the next card — the one where I wrote my actual request:

I need a “thin, trim, & fit” mindset.

I need alternatives to eating.

I need boundaries when eating.

I was stunned. What I had wanted came to be, and it had nothing to do with my actions. Heck, I had forgotten what I wrote on the cards — but it worked!

As I stood there with those cards in my hand, a chill literally passed over my body and I started shaking. I had EXACTLY what I had written on that card almost two years ago. And remember, I haven’t opened that box since I put those cards in there because I had lost the key — and believe me, I had completely forgotten what I had written on those cards. BUT I GOT EXACTLY WHAT I HAD ASKED FOR!

  • I’ve lost over 70 pounds, look trim, wear pants with a waist size six inches smaller than I did back in January, and love being more active.
  • I only eat raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds (with exceptions on occasion; see my posts about the 99% solution that I wrote a while back). What could be more “alternative” to the Standard American Diet (S.A.D.)?
  • Boundaries? See the last entry. That’s all I eat, and I do think it’s limiting. But then again, it limits disease, obesity, health problems, and a whole lot of other things that people spend billions of dollars on each year to combat (and I get it all in a piece of fruit!). :)

Again, I’m in total shock. The Secret of Deliberate Creation program flat out WORKS. Get it (regardless of your religious convictions), listen to it with an open mind, and try it yourself. Yes, it took a year for my mindset to slowly change and for me to get up the courage to try an all raw food diet, but I did attract the diet and was ready when I learned about it. I got EXACTLY what I asked for.

Now I’m off to write up some more cards to put in that box (oh, yeah!). But before I do that, I wanted to tell you my story so that you’d know what The Secret of Deliberate Creation can do for you. And I’m sure it will work on things beyond lifestyle changes; I plan on putting it work to build my business and reclaim my time and life.

So how about you? NOTHING is stopping you from achieving similar success in your own life. I recommend you click the following link to order your copy of The Secret of Deliberate Creation now so that you can start living your life by design instead of by default (as Dr. Anthony says).

Smacznego,

P.S. — Still skeptical? Do you think I’m crazy? Don’t blame you… But please hear me out.

Remember, I wrote those cards back in February 2007. Before that, I had tried all sorts of things to lose the weight and get more active, but nothing worked. And nothing worked for a year AFTER I wrote that card and put it in my Request Box because it took that long for my ESP to bring the raw food diet into my life. BUT IT DID HAPPEN. It has nothing to do with remembering what I wrote, looking for the answer, or trying to “make it happen”. I completely forgot what I had written — BUT IT HAPPENED ANYWAY. Nor did I say HOW I wanted it to happen; I simply wrote down the results I wanted and God brought the right solution to me. And just like it worked for me, I’m confident that it can work for you — but the longer you delay and the longer you doubt, the longer it will take before you start living your life by design. Don’t wait; get your copy today. Please.

True Confession Time

Winter is coming soon, and I’m extremely eager to see the effect that the 80/10/10 raw food diet is going to have on my health. Seldom does a winter pass without some type of major cold, bronchitis, or a mild case of pneumonia (if there is such a thing). Now that I’m on the raw food diet, I’m looking forward to good health this winter. Of course, if I do get majorly sick, I’ll report it here, along with my very unscientific analysis of why it happened.

And speaking of reporting it here… Well, Wife somehow convinced me that I was too thin and needed to gain some weight and asked me to start eating one regular cooked meal a day. So I agreed to do so and actually did for a couple of weeks.

That period is now over. Why did I quit?

  • The weight I gained (and yes, I did gain weight — and quite rapidly — about 20 pounds) is not proportional to the calories I consumed. I can only assume that it was due to retained “gunk” in my body and excess water.
  • I don’t like having all that fat on my body.
  • I started losing energy.
  • My mental clarity and focus decreased.
  • Quite simply, I didn’t like what was happening.

So as of this week, I politely told Wife that I’m going back to 100% raw. Already my body is settling back into its old routine. I’m sleeping less, have more energy, and actually feel like working — which means I’m once again making progress on my goals.

And that, I think, was the most startling realization from this little “backsliding” experiment. I really couldn’t concentrate and didn’t have the energy to work (I’ve recently decided to focus on copywriting for my online business activities). And just a few days after switching back, I’m already back to where I was insofar as energy and focus go.

Yes, I do have a few pounds to lose still, but they will come off shortly.

One other observation: I discovered that I no longer know how to eat cooked food. My stomach is used to being full — VERY full — and cooked food simply can’t fill it like raw fruits and vegetables. As a result, I ate way too much for my cooked meals — much more than I did before I made the switch back in March.

Now that I’m back on the raw food, I know what I want to eat and I know when to eat it. Even if I’m hungry, I can’t eat just anything; it has to be the “right” food, the one my stomach and body want. That may sound strange to somebody who has never tried the raw food diet (and even to those raw foodists who never went back to cooked), but that was my experience.

So I’m glad to be back.

One final word: If I were going to go back to a cooked diet, I’d probably check out Dr. John McDougall’s website. I’ve actually ordered two of his books (used, from Amazon, for one cent each!) because I want to be prepared with knowledge in case the need arises.

From what I’ve been able to glean from his website, he seems to agree with the 80/10/10 balance of calories (carbs, protein, fat) and also advocates a strict vegan diet (no meat or dairy). So if you’re going to eat cooked, you might want to check out his system.

I personally want to know more about it for an upcoming trip to the States. I’ll be in a resort area (as in “no grocery stores within walking distance”), plus I’ll be speaking at the event — and suspect that I’ll be stuck eating in restaurants the whole time (I say “stuck” in a nice way; these business events, including meals, are a great way to meet other like-minded people and build your business). If that is the case — and if the restaurant doesn’t have enough in the way of raw foods — I want to be ready.

I also find the social aspects of this diet to be somewhat limiting, especially in situations like the one I’ll find myself in. I want to have options available for times like this. This is definitely in keeping with my 99% philosophy (but the recent string of cooked meals was not!). In other words, I want the ability to socialize somewhat normally without regressing to high fat food.

Enough for today… More to come (now that I feel like writing again!).

Smacznego,
Tom

Guess Who Ate A Green Smoothie?

Can you believe it? I, Tom Brownsword, actually ate a green smoothie — and liked it?

Yup.

And now, the rest of the story: I signed up for Twitter the other day (I think I’m the last person on Earth to do so) and started following Roger Haeske. Roger tweeted (posted to Twitter) about a blended salad smoothie he made. I don’t have all the stuff he had, so here’s what I used:

  • About 4 ounces of lettuce (gift from the neighbor’s garden).
  • Six cherry tomatoes.
  • 1/4 of a cucumber (those really big ones).
  • One stalk celery (it was long but looked kind of anorexic, if you know what I mean!).
  • Water to make it blend.
  • A short squirt of agave nectar.

I think that’s it.

And I actually liked it.

While eating the vegetables isn’t a problem, I simply can’t force myself to eat enough greens (lettuce and the like) in the course of a day. Now I’m encouraged; I think I found a way to drastically increase my greens intake.

Oh, one other thing I did differently: I didn’t put any bananas in this smoothie. That, I think, was one of my key mistakes in the past. For me, the combo of lettuce and bananas just doesn’t cut it.

Oh — Click here to follow Tom Brownsword (me) on Twitter.

Smacznego,
Tom
