My wife and I talked a couple of days ago and she thought it might be a good idea to go back to eating like the rest of the family for a few weeks. The goal was to not get settled into one way of eating. I have this thought in the back of my mind that it might be a good if I mix things up a bit and not get too settled into any one particular dietary pattern before moving closer to my goal of 100% permanent raw foods.
So I agreed to eat what she cooks for the rest of the month of February. Now keep in mind that she cooks stuff from scratch and that we get most of our stuff from German stores. While it’s still far from ideal, it does eliminate some things that Americans do (like genetic engineering is frowned upon here in Europe).
Well, after one day, I broke my promise. I ate the food she cooked yesterday and am already back to my half raw / half McDougall diet.
What happened is that the food I ate yesterday kept me up half the night. I felt miserable, slept badly, and was extremely thankful that our bathroom is right next to the bedroom…
Again, I’m not sure if I could ever return to a fully cooked diet like I was eating this time last year. Looking back at it now, I realize that days like yesterday happened regularly back in the “bad old days”.
And I’m writing this now primarily for myself so that I can remember…
Smacznego,
Tom
P.S. — Bananas and grapes never tasted so good this morning. And our local DECA Commissary is now carrying a selection of organic produce. DECA gets it right — again (even if it is flown in from all over the world… But one thing at a time. Besides, not too many bananas grow in Germany in February…)! Another reason to look forward to returning to 100% raw.
